I’ve been following Electric Bike Company (EBC) since I started my Youtube channel and in December of 2023 they sent me their latest edition to review: the Model J, a retro looking ebike with an e-moped frame sitting on 24×3 inch street tires.
EBC is a great story. I find it refreshing that a company is building ebikes for the U.S. market employing American workers in their California facilities. They even ship the ebike with great care using a private freight company that called me to schedule my delivery. And it comes boxed on a wooden pallet that slides ride out. All I had to do was turn the handlebars and tighten them down and it was ready to ride.
Here’s a look at the unboxing process.

The level of customization is unheard of in the ebike industry. You can truly customize your own design and build something nobody else has. It’s American made with good looks and quality components. My favorite part of the Model J is the Tektro Dorado brakes (180mm rotors) which stop on a dime and inspire confidence when coming to a stop. Cornering is smooth and agile.
Biggest dislikes: The kickstand bolt is too short, it fell off twice on me. So I added some Loctite to it. The screen issues with having to accept the terms is annoying but not a deal breaker. Not a great pedal experience for tall riders.
The base model stats at $1,299.
